Mystic Massacre?
As of June 1st, Mystic has taken over the physical capitalization of Massacre's sizeable back-catalogue as well as the physical & digital releases for Massacre's frontline roster. As part of the deal Mystic struck with Nuclear Blast affiliate Soulfood Distribution, Mystic also licensed a selection of titles from Nuclear Blast and AFM Records.
Michał Wardzała, CEO of Mystic Production, commented:
“I’m happy and thrilled about this new partnership with the fantastic team at Massacre Records. Together, we aim to bring both classic albums and upcoming releases back to life. We are extremely fortunate to team up with Thomas Hertler, who will continue to lead the label with full operational independence. I would like to thank Marcus Hammer, CEO of Nuclear Blast, for the focused and trustful conversations that laid the foundation for this collaboration. We are looking forward to this exciting new journey together!”
Thomas Hertler, Head of Massacre Records added:
"Me and the guys at Massacre Records are excited to join forces with Mystic Production. I know Michal and the guys there for a long time and we share the same attitude and visons! We are sure that this transition is a great step into the future for both companies and we can`t wait to get it started!”
While everyone is acting like a big happy family for now, reading between the lines, it seems very likely that this was a corporate decision by Nuclear Blast (Massacre's parent compamy) that Massacre had little choice but to accept. The fact that it's Mystic's CEO who magnanimously proclaims that Massacre will have "full operational independence" as opposed to Massacre's Hertler or even Nuclear Blast's Hammer, seems more than a little ominous to me. Who knows, my suspicions could be way off base, but for now I'm happy I'm not in Hertler's shoes.
