The seeds for Cavalera Conspiracy were planted in 2006 when brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, the founders of Sepultura, reunited after a decade of not speaking to each other. Max had left Sepultura in 1996, soon after the tragic death of his stepson, feeling betrayed by decisions the rest of the band made in his absence. He has described it as one of the hardest decisions he has even had to make.

After first playing a few songs together in Max's new band, Soulfly, at a memorial show for Max's stepson, the brothers decided to reunite under the band name Inflikted. They soon had to abandon that name because it had been used by many others, so they switched to Cavalera Conspiracy, which for obvious reasons was uniquely theirs. In all but name, Cavalera Conspiracy is the real Sepultura.

Possibly because they essentially had their first band stolen from under their feet, Cavalera Conspiracy has only two permanent members, Max and Igor. That said, now that Max's son Igor Amadeus Cavalera has joined as the touring bass player, I suspect they now have an additional semi-permanent member.

The final touring member completing the current line-up is Travis Stone on lead guitar.

The second the band came on, the crowd went nuts. In fact, their set had the crowd so energized and invested that the photographers had to leave the pit before they had shot the customary three songs because it was raining crowdsurfers. Travis Stone seemed a little under the weather, but other than that, this was among the better shows Sepultura...eh, oops,...Cavalera Conspiracy, has ever played. It was Sepultura at its best.

All the voices in my head except the cranky old man who got kicked in the head by a crowdsurfer, gave the show a flaming skull. The rest of us have agreed to keep kicking the cranky old man.
